Mark Winzenried (Monroe) held the WIAA state record in the 440 yard dash (47.8 set in 1966) and 880 yard run (1:53.1 set in 1967) for many years.
Also in 1967, at the Jaycees National Junior Championships in Des Moines, IA, Mark ran 1:50.9 in the 880 yard run. This was the fastest ever run in Wisconsin prior to Andrew Perkins who bested that time in 2007.
At the University of Wisconsin, Mark was a five-time all-American, including three
NCAA titles ... five-time Big Ten track champion ... 880-yard indoor champion
at U. S. Track and Field Federation in 1968 ... third at 1968 U. S. Olympic Trials in Los
Angeles ... represented U. S. in international competition in 1970 ... member of
1970 indoor distance medley relay team that finished fourth at NCAAs ... set
world record in the indoor 1,000-yard run ... first athlete from Wisconsin to break four minutes in mile (3:59.6) Los Angeles Coliseum in 1972.

- Set 800 meter stadium records in Helsinki, Stockholm and Berlin Olympic stadiums

- 1968 Set Junior World Record in 600 meters (1:14.8) which still stands today
