Top Vault Discovered.
Previously, we had listed Kim Scott's (Madison West) 1973 vault of 16-0¾ as the top vault ever in the state. This mark was set indoors at the Madison West relays. Andy Lindberg (Green Bay Southwest senior) has been getting a lot of attention this season as he has vaulted 15-10. He has been quoted in the press that his goal is to break the state all-time best. Recently a local jouralist forwarded Andy info about a Wisconsin vaulter who actually vaulted higher that Scott. On June 9, 1984, Waukesha North's Todd Verbick competed in the Golden West Invitational in Sacremento, CA. Verbick vaulted 16-7 for 2nd as the winner went 17-0. "It was a memorable performance", stated Golden West historian Bob Jarvis, "his best coming into the meet was 15-7; after clearing 15-6 on his 3rd attempt, he passed 15-9 (as did all but one of the other vaulters), had a first attempt clearance PR at 16-0; a 2nd attempt clearance PR at 16-3; and a 3rd attempt clearance PR at 16-7." For his gutty performance Todd was given "The Maree Rodebaugh Award for the Most Inspirational Athlete." The Maree Rodebaugh Trophy is awarded for the most inspirational performance each year at the Golden West. It was first awarded in 1977 to honor the first female meet director for a national meet - which happened to be the Golden West Invitational. See our updated all-time list. Lindberg still has a few chances to break the all-time best this summer as he is competing in the 2006 WTC Summer Track Series at the UW-Madison Dan McClimon Track. There are three more meets in the series, une 29, July 6, July 13. |
