WIAA State Cross Country Championships. (10/29/05

Wisconsin Rapids, WI -- The 93rd running of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys Cross Country Championships and the 33rd Annual Girls Cross Country Championships took place, Saturday, Oct. 29, at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids. The top individuals were Claire Maduza Shorewood senior who won the D2 girls individual title with a time of 14:14.7 and Watertown sophomore Andrew Perkins who won the D1 individual boys crown with a time of 15:44.4.

USATF Junior Olympics. (7/31/05
USATF
Indianapolis, IN -- Recent Milwaukee Riverside graduate James Groce won the national title in the 800 meters with a season leading time (x12WI) of 1:53.15. In the 400 Meters, Grove ran a 47.69 time during qualifying. This is the second best time in Wisconsin history moving James ahead of the legendary Mark Winzenried on the all-time list. On Sunday, Groce finished 8th in the 400 with a time of 48.20

Nike Outdoor Nationals. (6/18/05
Greensboro, NC -- Several Wisconsin athletes played major roles in the Nike Outdoor Nationals this weekend. Green Bay Preble's Steve Marcelle won the shot put with the best throw ever by a Wisconsin prep (68-0¼). New London's Chris Rombough ran the second fastest 2-mile ever while finishing 3rd (8:53.94). Jenny Soceka (Madison Memorial) was the top Wisconsin girl in NC as she finished 4th in the pole vault.

Cedar Falls, IA -- The Midwest Senior Spotlight meet was held in Cedars Fall at Loras College. Top seniors from Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa competed.

Vernon Hills, IL -- Watertown freshman Andrew Perkins ran a 4:15.07 (converts to 4:13.60 for 1600 meters) to place second in the mile (and take second on the yearly list) and Steve Markson (Whitefish Bay senior) placed third in the 800 meters with a list leading 1:54.04 time. Both of these times are top-50 all-time marks.

110th WIAA State Track and Field Championships. (6/4/05
La Crosse, WI -- Three monstrous state records were broken in La Crosse this year which makes the 2005 Championships something extra special. The records were monstrous because of the athletes who previously held the records - Stu Voigt, holder of the state record in the shot put for almost 40-years and a 11-year NFL vet, Kenny Harrison, Olympic Champion and American Record holder in the triple jump and Chris Solinsky, arguably the best prep distance runner to ever grace the state of Wisconsin.

La Crosse, WI -- WIAA Regional and Sectional competition completed this week. The 110th WIAA State Track and Field Championships will be held on Friday and Saturday in La Crosse.

Madison, WI -- The top performance this week was by Caitlin Dodge. Dodge (Whitefish Bay Dominican senior) became only the third Wisconsin prep female to run under 56 seconds in the 400 meters.


Week 9. (5/15/05
Madison, WI -- Top girls this week were Caitlin Dodge (Whitefish Bay Dominican senior) who ran the 400 meters in 56.37 while winning the Monona Grove Invite title and Erin Havener junior from Ashwaubenon who pole vaulted 11-3½. The boys were led by Milwaukee Bradley Technical sophomore Victor Reynolds who triple jumped 48-2.


Week 8. (5/08/05
Hilbert, WI -- Valders senior Sean Pruitt launched the furthest discus throw ever by a Wisconsin prep athlete with a 215-7 throw. The top performer for the girls this week was Kiel senior Caitlin Schetter who had all-time top-50 jumps in both the long and triple jump.


Week 7. (5/01/05
Madison, WI -- Distance runners Chris Rombough and Michelle Corrigan led the action during week 7. Both Chris and Michelle ran list leading 3200 meter times at the Red Raider Invitational in Pulaski.


Grafton goes to the Penn Relays. (4/29/05
Philadelphia, PA -- Grafton ran in the 1600 and 3200 meter relay at the most prestigious relay meet in the world, the Penn Relays.


Week 6. (4/22/05
Salt Lake City, UT -- Chris Rombough of New London ran a 9:09.9 2-mile (converts to 9:06.72 3200m) to win a special 2-mile race in honor of Hall of Fame runner Gerry Lindgren. Matt Barrett of Monroe finished third in a time of 9:17.2 (converts to 9:13.97 3200m).


Week 5. (4/18/05
Madison, WI -- Valders senior Sean Pruitt threw the discus 194-6.5 this week to move into the third spot all-time. For the girls two hurdlers led the way as Hudson soph Sharyn Dahl ran 47.6 over the 300 hurdles and Madison Memorial senior star Jenny Soceka ran 15.1 in the 100 meter high hurdles.


Week 4. (4/11/05
Madison, WI -- Two all-time best marks were set at the TFA Indoor meet in Madison. Green Bay Preble senior Steve Marcelle threw 67-4 in the shot put and Jenny Soceka (Madison Memorial senior) upped her all-time best pole vault 2 inches with her 13-0 win.


Week 2/3. (4/4/05
Madison, WI -- Two boys distance runners have moved into top-50 territory. Chris Rombough (New London senior) moved up a few notches from his 2004 PR with his list leading 3200 Meter time of 9:11.62 at the Titan Invite at UW-Oshkosh and Matt Barrett (Monroe senior) moved into the top-50 all-time list with his 9:16.83 3200 Meter win at the Madison West Relays.


Week 1. (3/19/05
Madison, WI -- After most states have finished their indoor season, the Badger state has just begun. The top mark for boys in week 1 was James Groce (Milwaukee Riverside) 49.45 in the 400 meters. Jenny Soceka (Madison Memorial) led the girls with a pole vault of 12-6.


Top Performances in 2004. (3/12/05
Madison, WI -- Several performances stood out above the rest last season. wisconsintrackandfield.com has rated the top performance in 2004 by a boy as Green Bay Notre Dame senior Joe Pierre's 800 Meter Run time of 1:52.56. For the girls, Jenny Soceka (Madison Memorial junior) pole vaulted 12-10 at The USATF Region VIII meet in July.

Landover, MD -- Katy Hayes (Oconomowoc) grabbed the national title in the girls 1-mile race walk with a time of 7:28.84 and Watertown freshman Andrew Perkins won the Freshman 1-mile run with a time of 4:23.39.

USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. (2/27/05
Boston, MA -- Katy Hayes (Oconomowoc senior) competed against the nation's elite athletes in Boston at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Hayes finished 6th in the 3000 meter race walk with a time of 14:31.64.


Perkins Breaks the National Freshman class Indoor Mile Record. (2/12/05
Kenosha, WI -- Watertown freshman Andrew Perkins ran a 4:21.20 mile finishing second at the Pepsi Challenge meet at Carthage College, Kenosha WI, Saturday 2/12. This breaks the national freshman class record of 4:22.62 set by Jeff See of Middletown OH in 2002.


Foot Locker Cross Country Championships National Finals. (12/11/04
San Diego, CA -- Chris Rombough (New London senior) WIAA D1 champion finished 5th in the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships National Finals.

Wisconsin Rapids, WI -- Chris Rombough (New London senior) and Michelle Corrigan (Pulaski senior) ran the fastest boys and girls times at the 92nd WIAA State Cross Country Championships.

2004 Athletes of the Year. (8/3/04
Madison, WI -- wisconsintrackandfield.com has announced its selections for the 2004 Wisconsin Prep Track and Field Athletes of the Year. Two outstanding athletes clearly rose above the crowd during the 2004 track and field season. Wauwatosa West senior Antonio Freeman and Holmen sophomore Joanna Schultz. Because of their stellar seasons they have been named the 2004 wisconsintrackandfield.com High School Track and Field Athletes of the Year.


AAU Junior Olympics. (8/3/04
Des Moines, Iowa -- Several Wisconsin athletes are competing at the AAU Junior Olympics in Des Moines, Iowa. On Tuesday, Milwaukee King sophomore Lance Kendricks won the Gold Medal in the boys intermediate division triple jump with the second best jump in Wisconsin history (48-10.75).


Soceka Stars at USATF Region VIII. (7/11/04
Bellevue, NE -- Jenny Soceka (Madison Memorial) added another inch to her all-time best pole vault at the USATF Region VIII meet in Bellevue, Nebraska on Sunday. Her winning height of 12-10 is the all-time best mark for a Wisconsin prep athlete in the pole vault. Jenny also won the 100 meter high hurdles with a PR of 14.70.


WTC Summer Series. (7/1/04
Madison, WI -- Madison Memorial junior Jenny Soceka set the all-time best mark for a Wisconsin prep athlete in the pole vault (12-9) Thursday at the Wisconsin Track Club Summer Track Series held at UW-Madison Dan McClimon Track.


2004 USATF Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships. (6/27/04
College Station, TX -- Several athletes with Wisconsin connections competed in the USATF Junior Championships at Texas A&M University. Katy Hayes (Oconomowoc junior) grabbed the Silver medal in the girls 10K race walk. Wisconsin Badger freshman Demi Omole (three time WIAA D2 state 100 meter champ) won the 100 meter dash with a wind-aided time of 10.14. Another Badger freshman, Paul Hubbard from Colorado Springs, CO, won the triple jump.


adidas Outdoor Championships. (6/19/04
Raleigh, NC -- Several Wisconsin athletes competed in the adidas Outdoor Championships in Raleigh. Double WIAA champ Bryan Culver from Waukesha South ran 4:17.19 in the mile for 13th place and 9:11.75 in the 2-mile to finish 12th. Also running in the 2-mile, defending D1 WIAA Cross Country champ Chris Rombough (New London junior) ran 9:21.23 to place 17th. Jenny Soceka (Madison Memorial junior) place third in the pole vault at 12-5.5. Elizabeth Robe (Waukesha West) placed 7th in the shot put (42-6.25) and 11th in the discuss (125-3).


Midwest Senior Spotlight. (6/12/04
Cedar Falls, IA -- Fifty-nine of Wisconsin’s best senior track and field athletes bid adieu to their high school careers on Saturday, June 12, at the Midwest Senior Spotlight Track and Field Meet in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The invitation-only All-Star meet pitted the best seniors Wisconsin has to offer vs. their counterparts from Iowa and Illinois. This is the sixth year the meet has been contested, and the fifth year Team Wisconsin has participated.


109th State Track and Field Championships. (6/5/04
La Crosse, WI -- The annual pilgrimage to La Crosse was once again a huge success for fans and athletes. Team champs were Boys: D1 - Arrowhead, D2 - Osceola, D3 - Arcadia, Girls: D1 - Waukesha West, D2 - Columbus, D3 - Arcadia.

Madison, WI -- WIAA Regionals and Sectionals highlight week 11 of the regular season. Madison Memorial hurdler Lindsey Biel ran 14.53 in the 100 meter hurdles in which is 4th best all-time.

Madison, WI -- The top performance of the first week was by Wauwatosa West senior Anne McLaughlin. Anne, the defending Division 1, WIAA, State Champ, high jumped 5-9½ at the Nelson-Daniels Invitational at UW-Whitewater. This jump is the third highest height ever recording by a Wisconsin prep female.


Nike Indoor Championships. (3/14/04
Landover, MD -- The Nike Indoor Championships were staged at Prince George's Sports Complex outside Washington, D.C. On Saturday, Katy Hayes (Oconomowoc  junior) grabbed the national title in the girls 1-mile race walk with a national record time of 7:00.94.

Pewaukee Girls win Great American Cross Country Festival. (9/27/03
Cary, NC -- Defending D2 state champ Pewaukee girls won the seeded girls team competition. Jennie Stoll was the top Pewaukee individual as she finished 6th overall.

Wisconsin Native Mueller is top Vaulter. (8/16/03
Simi Valley, CA -- McFarland native Mel Mueler is one of the world's best female pole vaulters. wisconsintrackandfield.com interviewed Mel after her recent win at the Pan Am games.

AAU Junior Olympics. (7/23-30/03
Ypsilanti, MI -- Wisconsin athletes won two national titles at the AAU Junior Olympics.


Dennis Paulson Memorial Fund. (7/22/03
Stratford, WI -- WISTCA secretary and Stratford track coach, Dennis Paulson died on Friday afternoon, June 20, 2003 as the result of an automobile accident in the town of Knowlton. He was 37 years old.


USATF Region 8. (7/13/03
Minneapolis, MN -- The USATF Region 8 meet was held at St. Thomas University in Minneapolis. Recent Milwaukee Bay View graduate Telena Mackey took over the yearly triple jump lead with her 37-9.5 win.


2003 National Youth Athletics Championships. (7-2 through 7/6/03
Buffalo, NY -- The USATF National Youth Athletics Championships were held in New York over the 4th of July. Serveral Wisconsin athletes competed.


AAU Region VII. (6/29/03
Waukee, IA -- Wisconsin's top two sprinters (Demi Omole and Antonio Freeman) did not meet very often this season. At the AAU Region VII meet in Waukee, Iowa, they finally met head-to-head outdoors.


Post Season Begins. (6/15/03
Madison, WI -- Wisconsin athletes competed in multiple meets this weekend throughout the country.  Whitefish Bay Dominican star Demi Omole ran a 10.49 100 meters at the Wisconsin USATF Championships and Stevens Point senior and Badger recruit Chris Solinsky finished second in the mile at the adidas National Outdoor Championships with the second best effort in Wisconsin prep history at 4:05.30 (converts to 4:03.80 for 1600 meters - x2WI).


Summer Meets. (6/10/03
Madison, WI -- A slew of top summer competitions begin this weekend at the adidas National Outdoor Championships in Raleigh, NC, the Senior Spotlight meet in Cedar Falls, IA, Golden West in Sacramento, CA and the Wisconsin USATF Championships in Kenosha.  Stevens Point star Chris Solinsky will compete at the AOC in Raleigh. 108th State Track and Field Championships. (6/7/03
La Crosse, WI -- The 108th running of the Wisconsin State Track and Field Championships was once again a roaring success.  The weather could have been better, but the competition was very exciting.  Star performers included Chris Solinsky, Antonio Freeman, Demi Omole, Liza Lewis, Joe Thomas, Gavin Ball, Joanna Schultz, Anne McLaughlin, Brittany Grayson and Anna Monsen.

Madison, WI -- Week 11 saw very exciting WIAA Regional and Sectional competition throughout the state. Senior Chris Solinsky will attempt to win 3-individual titles in La Crosse as he advanced in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs.

Regionals. (5/27/03
Various, WI -- WIAA Regionals were held across the state on Tuesday.  Defending Division 1 boys state high jump champion Lewis Stotts (Madison La Follette) had not jumped near to his top form yet this season, but Tuesday he jumped 6-10 at the Waunakee regional to take the yearly list lead.  Other top performances saw:  Derek Theil (Marquette) pole vault 14-10 to top the boys list at the West Allis Hale regional. Freshman Joanna Schultz from Holmen cranked a 56.6 400 meters at the Holmen regional.


Week 10. (5/25/03
Madison, WI -- Madison Memorial sophomore Jenny Soceka was the top performer this week by setting the all-time best pole vault with a 12-3 clearance at the Big 8 Conference meet.


Week 9. (5/19/03
Madison, WI -- Liza Lewis, Ashwaubenon senior, made the highest all-time pole vault by a Wisconsin prep female this week.ord in the 3200 meter run.  In the pole vault, Adam Kaster (Peshtigo) advanced to the list lead with his 14-8 mark made at Crivitz.

Madison, WI -- Week 8 saw a slew of top-marks, especially on the boys side of the action as Joe Thomas (Brookfield Central) and Derek Stanley (Verona) led the way.

On the boys side, the big men made strong statements as Badger recruit Joe Thomas (Brookfield Central senior) threw 60-6 in the shot put at the Dan Benson Invite.

In the discus, Kansas recruit Gavin Ball (Monona Grove senior) leads the honor roll with the 184-10 toss he made at the Fort Atkinson Invite.  Thomas also had a long throw with his 178-2 made at the Brookfield Central Lancer Invite.


Top 50. (5/1/03
Madison, WI -- Liz Roehrig (Clinton junior) and Zach Vircks (Stanley-Boyd senior) have posted top-50 all-time marks in the last week.  Roehrig, matched her PR with a 5-10 high jump at a meet at Clinton on April 22.  This mark is the second best height ever cleared by a Wisconsin female prep.  Vircz, the Division 2 state cross country champion last fall, ran a 9:14.7 3200 meter time at the Father Mack Relays in Chippewa Falls on April 29.  This time is 29th best of all-time.  Roehrig leads the high jump listing in the girls honor roll, while Vircz follows the Rocket, Chris Solinsky, in the 3200 list this year.


Freeman is Hot! (4/22/03
Wauwatosa, WI -- The hottest boys sprinter this very young outdoor season is Wauwatosa West junior Antonio Freeman.   Last season Freeman ran the 3rd fastest 100 meter time and second fastest 200 meter time in the state.   At Brookfield East's Spartan Invite, held on April 16, Antonio ran 10.3 in the 100 meters and 21.0 in the 200 meters.  These times rank among the best all-time in state history.


Solinsky in California. (4/12/03
Arcadia, CA -- Stevens Point Senior Chris Solinsky destroyed a top national field with a 8:43.24 3200 meter win at the Arcadia Invitational.  Chris's time, run in a steady rain, is the best 3200 meter/2-mile time ever run by a Wisconsin Prep athlete.  Chris had set the all-time best at last year's race.

Solinsky Runs 4:07.60. (3/22/03
Stevens Point, WI -- Stevens Point phenom Chris Solinsky ran the 1600 meters in a PR of 4:07.60 at the Point Invite held at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point on Saturday.  This time is the 4th best all-time and the best indoor time ever by a Wisconsin prep athlete.


Nike Indoor Championships. (3/16/03
Washington, DC -- Stevens Point senior Chris Solinsky won the 2-mile run with a time of 8:56.26.  This converts to a 3200 meter time of 8:53.15.  This is the fastest indoor 2-mile ever run by a Wisconsin prep athlete.  Antonio Freeman (Wauwatosa West Junior)- ran 6.98 in the 60 meters and 22.45 in the 200 meters. Senior Demi Omole (Whitefish Bay Dominican) ran 7.22 in the 60 meters and 22.96 in the 200 meters. Abigail Berg (Oconomowoc) placed 8th in the 1-mile race walk 8:25.26.


USATF Indoor. (2/23/03
Kenosha, WI -- The Wisconsin USATF Indoor meet was held on Sunday, February 23, in Kenosha.


AAU National Indoor. (2/23/03
Merrillville, IN -- Whitefish Bay Dominican senior Demi Omole won the 55 meter dash with the national ranked time of 6.35.  Antonio Freeman (Wauwatosa West) ran a 6.39 in the preliminaries.  Antonio Freeman won the 200 meters with a 22.98 time and senior Matthew Ebenhoe won the triple jump with a 43-5.75 leap.  Patrice McMillan and Jakara Johnson (both Brookfield Central) ran solid 400 meter times of 61.36 and 61.49 respectively.

Madison, WI -- 2002 saw an incredible number of great times and distances.  127 girls marks and 76 boys marks were added to wisconsintrackandfield.com's all-time top-50 lists.  Three all-time bests were made in 2002.  Chris Solinsky's 8:48.44 3200 Meter Run, Melissa Talbot's 13.9 100 Meter High Hurdles and Priya Hoze's 39-9.75 Triple Jump.  Solinsky's 3200 time led the nation as well.

Knoxville, TN -- Demi Omole (Whitefish Bay Dominican) brought home two national titles from the AAU Junior Olypmics.


USATF Junior Olympics. (7/28/02
Omaha, NE -- Priya Hoze had a great meet, winning the long jump (19-11 2XWI all-time) and placing third in the triple jump (39-7.75 1XWI all time).  The Milwaukee Striders Track Club placed second in the Young Men's 4x100 Meter Relay with a great time of 40.36.  Top Wisconsin sprinters Demi Omole, Brian Calhoun, Antonio Freeman and Paul Tellford made up the team.  Gavin Ball was a double National Champion winning the shot put with a throw of 60-0.25 and the discus with a toss of 188-5.


Priya Hoze Jumps 19-9.5 at USATF Region 8. (7/14/02
Indianola, IA -- Priya Hoze long jumped 19-9.5, to win the Young Women's competition in Indianola.  Madison Edgewood hurdler Marianne Junck won the 100 Meter High Hurdles in 14.99 and the 400 Meter Low Hurdles in 64.46.  The Milwaukee Striders Track Club won the Young Men's 4x100 Meter Relay with a great time of 41.00.  Top Wisconsin sprinters Demi Omole, Brian Calhoun, Antonio Freeman and Paul Tellford made up the team.  Greg Bracey was a double winner, taking the 100 Meters in 10.84 and the 200 Meters in 21.89.  Gavin Ball was also a double winner winning the shot put with a throw of 58-4.5 and the discus with a toss of 178-4.


AAU Junior Olympics - Region 7. (7/7/02
Rosemount, MN -- Demi Omole was a double winner in the 100 and 200 Meter Dashes and Chandra Winzenried won the 400 Meters in an honor roll time at the AAU Region 7 meet.  Omole's 200 Meter time of 21.4 also adjusts this year's honor roll as it is the second best time.


Luethmers Vaults 12-0 at Badger State Games. (6/29/02
Madison, WI -- Park Falls Junior Blair Luethmers pole vaulted 12-0 at the Badger State Games in Madison.   Blair's vault is the 2nd best all-time for Wisconsin prep girls and is the top mark in 2002.


adidas Outdoor Championships. (6/14/02 - 6/15/02
Raleigh, NC -- Several Wisconsin athletes did well in the adidas Outdoor Championships in Raleigh.  Recent WIAA double winner Chris Solinsky finished second in the 2-mile with a time of 8:59.92.  Joe Thomas (Brookfield Central) popped the best throw for a Wisconsin prep this year (see the 2002 honor roll) with a monster 64-4 to place 5th in the shot put, while Brandon Houle (Oshkosh North) threw his season best 62-8.  Thomas's mark is the 6th best all-time in Wisconsin while Houle's is the 14th.


Senior Spotlight Meet. (6/8/02
Cedar Falls, IA -- Athletes from Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska and Wisconsin competed in the Senior Spotlight Track and Field Meet at Northern Iowa University in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  Top Seniors from the four border states competed.  Brandon Houle (Oshkosh North) won the shot put and discus.  Erica Schoeller (Madison Edgewood) won the long and triple jumps.

An Interview with Wisconsin Running Legend Suzy Favor-Hamilton. (3/14/02
Madison, WI -- Suzy Favor-Hamilton is one of the greatest runners to ever come out of Wisconsin.  Suzy won 11 WIAA titles while running at Stevens Point Area High School in the mid-80's.  At the University of Wisconsin she won 9 NCAA and 23 Big Ten titles.

Solinsky Wins Mile and 2-Mile at Midwest Indoor.. (2/9/02
Lincoln, NE -- Stevens Point Junior Chris Solinsky began his 2002 track season with impressive wins at the adidas Midwest Indoor Track Classic in Lincoln, Nebraska.  Chris's 9:14.51 2-mile (equivalent to a 9:11.29 3200 Meters) beat a top national field and is just off the PR he set while winning the WIAA State Title last year (9:08.44 3200M).  Solinsky also won the mile with a time of 4:20.74 (equivalent to a 4:19.23 1600M).

Raleigh, NC -- Several Wisconsin athletes competed at the adidas Outdoor Scholastic Track and Field Championships in Raleigh.  Brooke Novak, Kaukauna, place 4th in the girls mile run while Ben Gregory, Racine, ran the best Wisconsin time in the mile this year.


Calhoun Jumps 24-2.5 in Hungary (7/12/01 - 7/15/01
Debrecen, Hungary -- Oak Creek Junior Brian Calhoun, jumped 24-2.5 in the IAAF World Youth Campionships in Hungary.  The Youth Championships are for athletes 17 years and younger.  Calhoun's mark is the 2nd best all-time for Wisconsin High School athletes.
